Loma Grande Ranch is a 320 deeded acre Alpine Paradise entirely surrounded by the Lincoln National Forest White Mountain Wilderness. The towering Sacramento Mountains and the 12,000 ft. Sierra Blanca Peak is like an island rising from a desert sea giving sanctuary to the surrounding desert dwellers and is an attractant to the thriving Four Season Mountain Resort community of Ruidoso. This is a destination region that offers fine dining, performing arts, championship golf, action of the casinos, horse racing, recreation, Big Game hunting and snow skiing. Real Estate residential developments, commercial businesses, rural ranching enterprises and federal public land all compete for the many land use opportunities of Lincoln County’s most diversified region.
Loma Grande Ranch has an enviable location nestled high in a Alpine Valley above the activities of the Ruidoso community. It is peaceful, remote and serene, yet with good proximity and access to the many area attractions.
Access to Loma Grande Ranch is via New Mexico State Highway 37 to Forest Road 131, a gravel roadway, which provides right-of-way to the property.
Loma Grande Ranch is comprised of two non-contiguous 160 acre tracts separated only by the forest access road. Both tracts are entirely fenced and can stand alone.
Water rights are associated with the ranch. Loma Grande Ranch has a full water right amount of 176.4 acre-feet per annum. These water rights are recorded with the New Mexico State Engineers under the file H-2068-1. These are subsurface water rights that could be diverted from six irrigation wells. There are three wells on each tract. The big well located on the east tract is equipped with a 5 hp. Submersible pump and produces 100+ gpm. It delivers water into a 2 inch high pressure PVC water line for diversion thru irrigation sprinkler guns.
Topography of this high mountain Alpine Ranch includes large grass meadows flanked by mountain slopes and rich forest woodlands. The open meadows and slopes are at the head waters of Philadelphia Canyon. These grassy meadows are in the general area of the irrigable land and location of the water rights.
The diversified vegetation of this mountain ranch includes Alpine grasses, many annual and perennial wild flowers, brush and browse, oak trees, ponderosa pine, fir and aspen. The mild climate of Loma Grande is represented with all four seasons. The average annual rainfall is 25 inches which includes seasonal snow fall.
Thru the years Loma Grande has been developed as an equestrienne, cattle and recreation ranch. Associated with the property is the adjacent Loma Grande and Lower Bonito USFS Cattle Grazing allotments. These allotments permit the seasonal grazing of up to 81 head of cattle.
Improvements to the ranch are located primarily on the eastern 160 acre parcel. This site has the main ranch house, which is a two stories, six bedroom, three bath residence with large kitchen and den. Exterior construction is masonry stucco over cinder block.
Nearby the residence is a bunk house, horse stalls, barn, sheds and corrals. The horse pens have ten mare stalls with runs, foaling stalls, wash rooms and separate tack and feed room.
The main barn nearby the ranch entrance is a massive three story structure built with rough cut timber and huge timber beams.
Electric utilities and buried telephone service the barn and residence area. Domestic and livestock water is available from the headquarters well and spring, which is piped to all buildings and stalls. Water depth is approximately 10 ft. Additional capped wells at the big barn and across the ranch have never been completed for pumping. Other improved wells include the north well with electric power and the west pasture windmill.
Two spring fed tanks and ponds are located nearby the ranch house. Five other tanks are scattered throughout the ranch providing good water distribution for the benefit of livestock and wildlife.
This wilderness region is host to one of New Mexico’s most diversified and prolific wildlife communities where deer, elk and turkey are seen most days. Black bear, coyotes, lions and many smaller mammals are also common to the area. Mountain blue jays, colorful song birds, humming birds, eagles and hawks nest and migrate throughout this high country sanctuary.
To the benefit of the hunter each year the landowner receives approximately three landowner bull elk and three cow elk permits. This is a rifle hunt area designated as Unit _____ which is managed by the New Mexico Game and Fish Department. The landowners may also purchase deer, bear, turkey and lion hunt licenses. As a base camp Loma Grande Ranch has endless recreational opportunities of trail riding, hunting, fishing, hiking and camping in the adjacent and seemingly endless Lincoln National Forest.
