
The Lyles Ranch is a 3,685 deeded acre expanse of beautiful and productive East Central New Mexico rangeland. Access to The Lyles Ranch Headquarters from Santa Rosa is an easy 12 mile drive, via New Mexico State Highway 156 ~ then south one mile on Sneed Road. The ranch fronts the southern boundary of Highway 156 for approximately 1¼ mile. Sneed Road traverses the ranch north to south. East of Sneed Road are approximately 1,360 acres and the balance 2,325 acres to include headquarters is west of the county road. Access onto the ranch is private and gated.
This is reputation cattle country utilized for cow-calf and yearling grazing operations. The Lyles Ranch infrastructure is designed to support either land use. The centrally located headquarters is the nucleolus of the ranch and the location of the primary improvements. The residence is a 2,000 square foot 1998 Palm Harbor manufactured home. It measures approximately 36’ w x 62’ l and contains three bedrooms and two baths. It is self-contained, has propane gas heat and a pellet stove. Appliances include ~ washer, dryer, refrigerator, and freezer. Nearby are the livestock shipping pens. These pens are steel pipe construction and include ~ cattle scales, scale house, squeeze chute and cattle loading chute. Adjacent to the pens is a secure steel box car for feed and storage.
Livestock water is available from 3 shallow water wells. Two wells are approximately 150’ depth and one approximately 120’ depth. The wells are equipped with steel towers and windmills. One well has a stuffing box to pressure water to a storage tank. These wells supply two 20’ fiberglass tanks installed in October 2008, and 3 steel 18’ diameter water tanks. Pipelines supplying the tanks are 1¼” PVC and a 1¼” black poly pipe supplies domestic water to residence. Water quality is good with no mineral deposits. Utilities include ~ telephone and electric service.
The Lyles Ranch is located within the high plains, just east of the Pecos River. This is a rolling grama grass prairie with occasional depressions, arroyos and drainages. Within the ranch are the headwaters of the Arroyo Potrillo. This vast water shed drains to the Pecos River approximately 15 miles southeast. Adjacent to the Arroyo Potrillo nearby the stock pens, is a large reliable earthen water tank that holds rain water runoff.
This is a ranch with juniper trees and elms. Native vegetation is principally grama grass with some areas of cholla cactus infestation. Soils are typically deep loams and silty loams.
Elevation of the ranch average 5,000 feet. This is a healthy climate with good quality ground water, 15 inch average annual precipitation, plentiful sunshine and a long growing season.
Thriving within this healthy environment are the resilient and fascinating Pronghorn Antelope. This native big game provides for year around enjoyment and seasonal hunting. Each year approximately three hunting permits are issued to the land owner. Other wildlife includes ~ coyotes, smaller mammals, quail, dove, many wild birds and raptors.
The Lyles Ranch is a low maintenance low overhead cattle operation. Annual real estate property taxes are approximately $400.00. Operations similar to The Lyles Ranch are increasingly difficult to find. This is a first time offering of this family ranch.
