Six Shooter Ranch is a mountainous expanse of 12,760 deeded acres. The ranch has an enviable location and is situated within the vast and sparsely populated Catron County of West Central New Mexico. This scenic Land of Enchantment is comprised of millions of acres of pristine National Forest, stunning rangelands, crystal clear skies, and plentiful sunshine. The area has a reputation as one of the nation's premier wildlife habitats. Elk, deer, antelope, bear, lion, and turkey thrive throughout the area. While exploring the region you're more likely to encounter elk than people. None-the-less the Western Heritage and lifestyle is very much alive and at the heart of this rich country. Cowboys, horses, and beef cattle are all part of the business and culture of Catron County.

Six Shooter Ranch is located northeast of Pie Town ~ eight miles north of U.S. Highway 60, just east of the Continental Divide. Primary access is Forest Road 6A which accesses headquarters, and traverses the ranch. The land boundary shape of Six Shooter Ranch is unique. The western quadrant is blocked and the eastern range is a Finger which is one mile wide extending 10 miles in length and has the Cibola National Forest along its entire southern border. Six Shooter Ranch has a total of 14 miles boundary against the vast Cibola National Forest. Meandering through The Finger is Alamocito Creek. This is the principal drainage to a huge mountain water shed runoff area. Consequently; Alamocito Creek has numerous springs, seeps, surface water, cottonwood bosques, and abundance of wildlife, and interesting landscapes.

Within close proximity of the ranch are the Datil Mountains and the atypical jagged peaks of the Sawtooth Mountains. These towering peaks are a predominate focus of the many scenic views observed throughout the ranch.

Topography of the ranch is varied. There are many mesas, steep slopes, numerous hills, wide meadows, and canyon lands. Elevations range from a low of 6,693 ft. to a high of 7,700 ft. The associated soils are complex composites of igneous rock, and sandstone. The bottomlands are deep sandy silt loams which in areas are entrenched forming deep arroyos. Beautiful sandstone outcropping and boulders are common throughout the landscape. Vegetation is as varied and changeable as the terrain. Grama grass, mountain muhly, buck grass, sage, and chamisa is the primary understory. The woodlands are comprised of piñon pine, juniper, and Ponderosa. Growing along the creek bottom are stands of cottonwoods and willows. This diverse topography, vegetation, and surface water provide a healthy ecosystem to the benefit of wildlife and livestock. Due to the proximity of the Cibola National Forest and Alamocito Creek the ranch has plentiful wildlife. The ranch and area is renowned for producing massive elk. Six Shooter Ranch is located within New Mexico Big Game Hunt Unit 13. This is a primitive weapons bow and muzzle loader hunt area and one of the best elk places in the world! The ranch will typically receive 14 mature bull elk muzzle loader or bow permits ~ 5 either sex bow hunt only and 10 antlerless elk, muzzle loader or bow permits. Allusive mule deer, bear, lion, and turkey can also be hunted during season. Improvements to the ranch include the headquarters which is the nucleus of the operation. Headquarters is easily accessed off Forest Road 6A.

Electric and telephone service the headquarters. Located at this site is a residence, camp house, log cabin ~ complete with game processing shed and walk-in cooler. Also at the site is an original Navajo Hogan. It is built of hand hewed timbers and complete with restroom and shower. The living facilities of all structures have recently been remodeled. These living facilities are rustic, inviting, modern and complement the land use of big game hunting and cattle ranching. At headquarters are several barns, stock pens and nearby are the cattle processing and shipping steel pens. The ranch is fenced and cross fenced for livestock grazing. Permanent water is provided from four wells, several surface dirt tanks, and Alamocito Creek. The infrastructure of the ranch is designed to support big game hunting and cattle ranching. The livestock stocking rate is approximately 10 head per section.

Real Estate taxes have the agricultural tax exemption and considered low and not detrimental to property ownership.

Six shooter Ranch is priced at $490.00 per deeded acre ~ $6,252,400.00.

Six Shooter Ranch, Alamocito Creek, and surrounding lands have long been inhabited. Many of the sandstone bluffs and boulders have ancient Petroglyphs and artifacts. Alamocito Creek was used as an early roadway where settlers, cowboys, outlaws, and Indians made their passage. Throughout the ranch evidence of these intriguing people remain. There are many Indian ruins, rock and timber ruins, and old homesteads. This is an assemblage of beautiful acreage, private land; and at the door to thousands of acres of pristine national forest. It's a spectacular area and an awesome ranch that will provide opportunity to ranch, hunt, and explore. Additional adjoining deeded acreage is also available.
