Tinnie Silver Dollar represents an authentic historical restoration and preservation of a significant nineteenth century building. Originally built in 1882, Tinnie Silver Dollar began operations as a general store and post office. It serviced a thriving farming and ranching community west of Roswell, New Mexico.
In 1960 Robert O. Anderson had acquired the property and commissioned New Mexico artist and designer, John Meigs to restore the historic building. Focused on the charm of the Victorian period, the old general store was transformed into a fashionable country steak house, replete with bell tower and rambling porches. The comfort and elegance of the New Mexico Territorial era has been captured alongside the route of U. S. Highways 70/380. Farmers, ranchers, townspeople and travelers have since been enjoying the atmosphere and dining within this New Mexico treasure.
Located in historic Lincoln County, thirty miles downstream from Ruidoso, Tinnie Silver Dollar is a 10,000-square foot adobe and wood frame historical building situated on nine acres, more or less. The picturesque Hondo River Valley with its massive cottonwood trees and rambling hill country ranches are the backdrop for the Tinnie Silver Dollar.
The Tinnie Silver Dollar will accommodate up to three hundred guests with its many rooms and covered patios. Complimenting the food service is a full service bar with liquor license. The grand entry, with its massive oak door, opens to a stunning and historical foyer inviting the guest to enter into a time gone by. Guests may stop to play one of several ancient metal music discs on the European Music Penny Box. The adjacent lounge has a massive oak bar which accents the thick adobe walls and oak floors. Throughout the building are rare finds, one-of-a-kind antiques, fine art, stained glass and ornate woodwork.
The stroll to the dining table becomes a journey as most guests typically explore the treasures of each dining room. First entered is the elegant Crystal Room adorned with lead glass windows, lovely paintings, ornate wood mantels and doorways. A glance into the Victorian Room reveals the stunning life-size painting of infamous Lillie Langtree.
Guests will wander through the Tiffany Room and gaze at the beautiful stained glass windows salvaged from an old El Paso Presbyterian Church or focus on the antique stained glass window illustrating Neptune being attended by mermaids.
Straightaway, beyond the signature door is the Peter Hurd Room adorned with a collection of proofs by the world renowned Hondo Valley artist.
To soon the guest has been seated, perhaps within the Polo Room beneath the beautiful skylight that was rescued from a San Francisco mansion. The focus in this room is a Murano stained glass mosaic depicting the four seasons which was once the back bar of an old Mills Confectionery in El Paso, Texas. Across the top are marbeline glass lamps, rare originals, dating back to the 1880’s.
After dining, the guest enjoys the great outdoors while walking the porches and strikingly beautiful partially enclosed veranda.
This great New Mexico treasure is now offered for sale. It will be sold "As Is", all antiques, art work, and furnishing inventory.
